Where to find the Serial Number on MacBook Pro
The serial number is a unique ID for a MacBook Pro device. This number is assigned to each Apple product during manufacturing and appears as an alphanumeric combination. Finding this identifier is possible in several ways. Chose the option regarding your circumstances:
- 1
On the MacBook
The serial number is indicated on the back surface of the device during manufacturing, along with other marking elements. Turn the MacBook upside down, and find this number underside.
- 2
In settings
If the number and other identification elements on the back of the device have worn off and are unrecognizable, you can find this information in Settings. In the upper left corner of the screen, there is an Apple logo. Click on it and select the About This Mac option. A window will open with details about the device, including the serial number. The same information and additional details are found in the About This Mac > System Report menu. Specifically, the serial number is located in the Hardware Overview category.
- 3
On the box
If you are purchasing a new, not used, device, it comes with its original packaging. This number is also indicated in the box, near the barcode or markings, or next to the product description. It is also specified on the warranty card and stuck in the product receipt.
In most cases, the user does not need this number. However, sometimes, it is necessary to know it to resolve regulatory issues and check the warranty status and coverage on the official website or contact support.
Identifying a specific model is also necessary when repairing and replacing parts, and if such a need arises, you can ensure you received your device back after technical service. Checking the serial number also helps determine the device’s history. If you are buying a used device, even in stores that call themselves official partners, knowing the serial number can protect you from potentially unpleasant situations. This code is essentially proof that you are receiving an original Apple product and will not have problems with it in the future.
So, just in case, be sure to check this code before purchasing and after repairs. When you buy a new device, write down and keep the product's serial number if you need to interact with Apple support or service providers.
